Srinagar recorded the season’s highest temperature at 31.5 degrees Celsius. Jammu and Qazigund, the gateway to Kashmir, also recorded their hottest day of the season at 41.0 degrees Celsius and 32.0 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Kokernag in south Kashmir recorded a maximum temperature of 30.0 degrees Celsius, while Pahalgam recorded 29.0 degrees Celsius.

In north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, the temperature settled at 30.0 degrees Celsius. In Gulmarg, the temperature was recorded at 22.2 degrees Celsius.

The Jammu division also witnessed heatwave conditions in Banihal, Batote, Bhaderwah, and Katra, with all places recording day temperatures above 30 degrees Celsius.

Director of the Meteorological Department (MeT), Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, said that the heatwave is likely to continue tomorrow. However, light rain and thundershower activity from the evening of May 18 is expected to bring down the temperature until May 20.

“Thundershower activity is expected till May 20, with the possibility of gusty winds as well,” he said. A short spell of heatwave is likely again from May 21 to May 24.

He added that from May 25, there is a possibility of another short spell of light rain and thundershowers.

The MeT Director advised people, especially in the Jammu division, to take necessary precautions due to the rising temperatures. He urged people to stay hydrated, particularly children, the elderly, and those in vulnerable health. (KNO)

  • Sudanese student stabbed to death in Phagwara while protecting women students
from harassers: police

Two Sudanese students of a private university in Punjab’s Phagwara district were attacked with knives by other students of the university in the early hours of Thursday, leading to the death of one of the duo, police said.

The incident took place around 4 am in the Green Valley area near Law Gate in Maheru village — a locality known for housing international students, particularly those from African countries. The Satnampura police identified the deceased as Mohammad Wada Bala Yousuf Ahmed, 25, and the injured student as Ahmed Mohammad Nour Ahmed Hussen, 26.

From his hospital bed, Hussen provided the police with the names of the six alleged attackers–Abdul Ahadh from Chikkamagaluru in Karnataka, and Kuwar Amar Partap Singh, Aditya Garg, Mohammed Shoib, Sushank alias Shaggy, and Yash Vardhan Rajput–all reportedly hailing from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar and paying guests in Phagwara.

Hussen told the police that he and Ahmed were returning from the morning prayer along with two women students (both Sudanese) when a group of men started harassing the women asking for their contact details.

When the duo tried to stop the men, who were allegedly under the influence of alcohol, they turned violent and started stabbing them, the police said. The men attacked both of them in the chest and other parts of the body and fled when a local, Prabhat Dubey, came to help the victims after hearing their screams

  • Nothing in Pakistan is beyond Indian Army’s reach: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor

During his visit to army personnel stationed along the Line of Control (LoC) in Tangdhar Sector, J&K Lieutenant Governor said, “The whole world has seen the bravery of the Indian Armed Forces and then enemy started pleading all over the world for ceasefire. There is nothing in Pakistan that is beyond the reach of the Indian Army.”

Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday issued a stern warning to Pakistan declaring that the sponsors of terror in the neighbouring country must understand that nothing in Pakistan is beyond the reach of the Indian Army. During his visit to army personnel stationed along the Line of Control (LoC) in Tangdhar Sector, Sinha highlighted India’s global stature and saluted the Indian Armed Forces’ valour during Operation Sindoor.

The J&K Lieutenant Governor said, “The whole world has seen the bravery of the Indian Armed Forces and then enemy started pleading all over the world for ceasefire. There is nothing in Pakistan that is beyond the reach of the Indian Army.”

Speaking to the soldiers, he emphasized how Pakistan’s aggression ultimately backfired and pointed out that the enemy country was surviving on debt and utilising borrowed money to destroy humanity. “Our neighbour is bent on destroying humanity on the strength of debt. I think they must have learnt a lesson from the reply given by our brave soldier,” he said.

In his address, Sinha expressed profound gratitude to the soldiers, and said, “I salute your valour, bravery and devotion towards Maa Bharti and pray to God that whenever such a crisis comes, the people should know that our country is in the safe hands of heroes like you.”Read More

  • Drone Footage Shows Terrorists Hiding In Shed Before Fierce J&K Encounter

These encounters follow increased scrutiny and tracking of terrorists’ movements after the Pahalgam terror attack in April, in which 26 people, mostly civilians, were killed.

Dramatic footage has emerged of the three terrorists killed in an encounter with security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Awantipora that began early Thursday morning.

In one video one of the terrorists can be seen crouched behind a concrete pillar, with what appears to be an assault rifle in his hand. In another, filmed from further away, the terrorists can be seen huddled inside what seems to a broke-down shed.

All three, who earlier sought refuge in a house, were killed after a joint op by the police and Army that began in the Tral region of Awantipora, which is a sub-district of Pulwama in south Kashmir.

This was the second encounter in Kashmir in the previous 48 hours.
